Ep. 1: Where's "Vielka" From?
Learn more about the name, people, and inspiration behind the method.
Spoiler Alert: There's more than one "Vielka" in this picture...
Before we dive into our regular podcast episodes, I wanted to share a special story with you—the story behind the name Vielka. 🌟 With a name as unique as mine, I often get asked about its origin, so I thought I'd take a moment to explain. The name Vielka has been passed down through generations in my family, beginning with my great-grandmother, who named my grandmother after a famous Russian actress. From Panama to the United States, the name Vielka became a symbol of creativity, resilience, and a deep love for music that has been a constant thread through my family's history. 🎶
This legacy of strong, music-loving women has profoundly shaped who I am and the method I've created to teach singing. My great-grandmother was a concert pianist who defied traditions, my grandmother dreamt of being an opera singer, and my mother, who also had a passion for singing, encouraged me to pursue what I loved. While I chose not to pass the name Vielka to my daughter, I knew I wanted to honor this rich history by naming my approach to teaching singing after these incredible women.
So, the Vielka method is not just a name—it's a tribute to the generations of women who came before me, who nurtured a love of music and broke traditions to follow their passions. It’s a method designed to help you and your students find confidence in your voices, carrying forward a legacy of musical excellence with a modern twist. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me! 🎤✨
